Online Therapy CT

Life has completely changed over the past few months with the Covid-19 pandemic. What used to be your normal no longer is. You are now working from home, trying to homeschool your kids, and worried about your safety and your family’s safety. You feel worried all the time and second guess every decision you make. At times, you feel irritable and everything seems to get on your last nerve. Has your anxiety increased since your life has been impacted by the pandemic? This is where online therapy can help. You can seek online therapy from the comfort of your home office, living room, bedroom, or even your car. Many businesses in different industries have closed for the time being. Therapy does not have to be one of them! Online therapy can help address your emotional needs from the comfort of your home during this pandemic. You do not have to put off therapy at this time.

Online Therapy Can Help

Coping with these struggles is important to your emotional well-being and overall health. Therapy is therapy whether it is online or in person. Online therapy is not new and has been becoming increasingly popular over the past few years well before the pandemic. According to GoodTherapy’s write up of the Canadian Medical Association Journal stating, “reviewed studies of online cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) conducted between 2000 and 2012. CBT is a widely used and well-researched form of therapy, with most studies saying in-person forms of this treatment are highly effective. CBT focuses on reducing negative thoughts, thereby changing behavior and alleviating symptoms.”  Also stated in GoodTherapy’s article, “Most of the studies tracked participants for a relatively short period of time after undergoing therapy—ranging from eight weeks to about two years. Researchers found online CBT could effectively reduce symptoms of depression and other mental health issues. In some cases, online CBT was even more effective than traditional in-person therapy.”  As your online therapist, I can hold a space for you to process your worries and fears. I can help you increase your coping skills. I can help you take a little much needed time for yourself.

How does online therapy work?

I use a HIPAA compliant platform called Doxy.me which has been used by several different types of healthcare providers to provide telehealth or telemedicine. I email you a link for my online waiting room that you click on. You can use your smartphone, computer, or tablet. You then enter your name and it brings you into the online waiting room. It actually says, “Welcome to Mrs. Brady’s Waiting Room”.  I then see your name and connect the call. It is that easy. I would recommend using Google Chrome as your web browser. While you are in the virtual waiting room, there is a button on the bottom left corner to do a test call to test your microphone and camera before our session to make sure it is working properly.

How can I have privacy?

I would recommend going into a room where you do have privacy. I recommend wearing headphones. I wear headphones as well. Some people will sit in their car (obviously parked) to ensure privacy. Whatever would make you feel comfortable and have privacy. For more information on how online therapy (also known as virtual therapy, telehealth, video session , etc.), click my blog article here.
